Which one should you choose?

Choose the ID. Polo when you prioritise

  • Better documented towing and V2L functionality.
  • A comfortable, conventional driving experience.
  • Clear physical controls and a familiar Volkswagen interface.
  • Maximum published range.
  • Practicality and family use.
  • A broader Volkswagen dealer and service network.

Choose the Cupra Raval when you prioritise

  • Sharper steering and a more playful chassis.
  • More distinctive exterior and interior styling.
  • Better launch price for the 52 kWh/211 hp configuration.
  • Sport seats, adaptive chassis and electronic differential on VZ models.
  • A lower, more “hot hatch” driving position.

My verdict

Best rational all-rounder: Volkswagen ID. Polo

It has slightly stronger range credentials, clearer V2L implementation, a comfort-oriented chassis and unusually good practicality for a four-metre car. The combination of a 441-litre boot and up to 1,200 kg towing capacity is particularly strong in this class. (Volkswagen Newsroom)

Best value among the initial Swedish 52 kWh cars: Cupra Raval

At SEK 412,900, the Raval Dynamic Launch Edition undercuts the comparable 211 hp ID. Polo Life Launch Edition by approximately SEK 26,000 while using essentially the same battery and drivetrain architecture. (Elbilen)

Best driver’s car: Cupra Raval VZ

Its lower chassis, adaptive damping, progressive steering and electronic front differential make it the more engaging alternative. The trade-off will probably be a firmer ride, somewhat lower range and a higher tyre-replacement cost.

Best low-cost version: wait for the 37 kWh cars

The advertised starting prices are attractive, but the smaller battery means approximately 300–329 km WLTP and potentially much shorter winter motorway range. For Swedish mixed use, the 52 kWh version is the substantially safer choice unless the car is mainly used for commuting and local journeys.
