ID4 – Good to Know

⚡️ VW ID.4 (ID. software 2.x/3.x)

1️⃣ Soft Reset (Infotainment / Main touchscreen)

When: Frozen UI, CarPlay/Android Auto glitches, laggy nav/audio.
How:

  • While parked, press and hold the infotainment power button (the capacitive power/volume control under the screen) for ~10–15 seconds until the display goes black.
  • Release and wait for the VW logo and system reboot.

2️⃣ Driver Display / Instrument Cluster Reset

When: Driver screen flickers, shows stale data, or becomes unresponsive.
How:

  • With the vehicle on, press and hold the right-hand steering wheel “OK/↵” button for ~10 seconds (or until the cluster refreshes).
If that doesn’t work: switch the car off, open the driver door to force shutdown, wait 1–2 minutes, then power on again.

3️⃣ Full Power Cycle (Vehicle Sleep)

When: Connectivity issues (We Connect ID), charging hiccups, multiple modules acting up.
How:

  • Switch off ignition, exit the car, lock it, keep key away.
  • Wait 5–10 minutes so ECUs and the 12 V network go to sleep.
  • Unlock and start again.

4️⃣ Factory Data Reset (last resort)

When: Persistent software problems or before handing over/selling the car.
How:

  • Settings → System → Factory settings / Reset and confirm.
  • This wipes personal data (profiles, paired phones, nav history, accounts). You’ll need to re-add We Connect ID, Bluetooth, profiles, etc.

🧠 Tips (ID.4)

  • Make sure you’re on the latest ID. software; many bugs were fixed in 2.4/3.0+.
  • After a reboot, give the car a minute for modules to re-initialize (BT, LTE, maps).
  • Avoid disconnecting the 12 V battery yourself—can cause errors; leave that to service.

Here’s how to activate Wiper Service Mode on a Volkswagen ID.4 (for changing or cleaning the blades):

Volkswagen ID.4 – Wipers in Service Mode

🧰 Purpose: Lift wipers off the hood for blade cleaning or replacement.

How:

  1. Turn car and ignition fully off (press the start/stop button – everything off).
  2. Within 10 seconds, briefly press the washer button (on the right-hand stalk).
→ The wipers will automatically move up to the service position mid-windshield.

🧽 After replacement:

  • Turn ignition on again.
  • The wipers will automatically return to their normal resting position.

📝 Notes:

Alternatively, you can activate it via Menu → Vehicle → Settings → Wipers → Service position on the infotainment screen.

Works only when ignition is off.
